Reading’s Andy Rinomhota is that player with Bristol Live reporting that the Robins are keen on the 25-year-old.

The midfielder’s current deal is up this summer and though he has been made a new offer by the Royals, he is said to be exploring his options and could be set to depart.

But would it be a good potential move for City? Would he start under Nigel Pearson? And what exactly does he offer?

We take a look…

Is it a good potential move?

Yes, this looks like it could prove to be a shrewd bit of business from a Robins perspective.

Han-Noah Massengo’s future is up in the air while the likes of Matty James, Joe Williams, and Andy King have struggled to stay fit during their time at Ashton Gate, which has often left Pearson short in midfield.

Signing Rinomhota would help to solve that problem. The 25-year-old has proven his quality at Championship level and his second-tier experience would be useful in what is a fairly youthful squad.

There are some question marks about his injury record, however, particularly given the struggles that the likes of James, King, and Williams have had recently.

But ultimately, he looks like a realistic target but one that would improve the squad.

Pearson has made it clear that the club won’t have a huge amount of money to spend this summer so strengthening in an area that needs work by signing a free agent is a smart move.

Would he start?

If everyone was fit, it would be a surprise to see Pearson move away from the Williams/James combination that supporters are so keen to see on a regular basis.

But we know the fitness issues that pair have had, so you feel Rinomhota would likely be a regular starter at City – assuming Massengo departs.

Can you name which club Bristol City sold these 23 players to from the last decade?

What does he offer?

The 25-year-old would provide some real energy and industry in midfield while we have seen with the Royals that he does have the technical quality in possession to create opportunities and score goals.

He’s played as more of a box-to-box midfielder for Reading but does have the qualities that could allow him to play a deeper role at City, which is what may be asked of him by Pearson.
