Andy King has only made five appearances during his loan spell at Rangers and may be returning to Leicester in the upcoming window.
In a press conference on Thursday, manager Steven Gerrard acknowledged that King not be with the club for the second half of the season and confirmed that discussions about his future will take place shortly.
“We’ll make a decision in the coming days with Leicester and his reps and we’ll respect Andy and do what’s best for him,” he said.
“We’re in talks now with Leicester and his reps to find the best solution. He has obviously been frustrated with his game time here, which we respect.
“He has been the ultimate professional and has gone above and beyond in this dressing room in terms of how he has approached it and gone about it.
“He has fallen victim of the form of (Glen) Kamara, (Ryan) Jack, (Scott) Arfield, (Steven) Davis.
“I haven’t been able to give him the game time he would have liked but I made it pretty clear to Andy when he came it would be tough and a challenge for him to get any opportunity so it was one we were both keen to explore to see how it would work out.”
Gerrard also confirmed that he has no plans to integrate £1.5m striker Eduardo Herrera back into the first-team squad after the 31-year-old declared he would return to Glasgow after his Necaxa loan deal ended.
Jamie Murphy, Greg Docherty, Glenn Middleton, and Matt Polster may have their Rangers futures cut short in January as well, whether it be on loan or on a permanent basis.
Middleton is set to return from his Hibs loan in January but will likely be shipped off to another club.
