Andros Townsend has had a hard couple of years in the top flight but now looks to be back on track after scoring in the Premier League for the first time since 2021.
The 32-year-old suffered an ACL injury mere months into his spell at Everton following his contract expiry at Crystal Palace, and failed to play for 18 months before being released again at the end of last season.
Townsend had looked set to join newly promoted side Burnley this summer after reported contractual agreements had been made with the club, but the Lancashire side withdrew their offer, placing Townsend’s season into dismay.
The former Palace man was then snapped up by local club Luton Town and their faith in him has been repaid.
Townsend scored the opener against his former employers Newcastle, who paid £12 million to sign him from Tottenham back in January 2016, with a glancing header to make it 1-0 before halftime.
The 32-year-old proceeded to celebrate by holding up the shirt of his teammate and Captain Tom Lockyer who is recovering from a cardiac arrest.
