Bayer Leverkusen officially confirmed this afternoon, August 14, that Robert Andrich will be club captain for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign.

“It's of course a great honor for me, I'm very happy with it. It's a sign of appreciation by the staff and the coach.

“The coach told me two days ago, the team was told yesterday on the training pitch and now we make it public and I'm very happy about it,” he said, on the club's social media.

Andrich, now 30, also revealed his reasons for hiring a personal chef and a personal trainer to help get in shape during pre-season.

“Basically, the older you get the better you have to prepare in pre-season. I'm a player who has to use his fitness to his advantage.

"Therefore I prepared as well as possible, with rest in the beginning of course, and then with training. A chef was also there. These are of course things that are part of making the best start possible.

“What I always say is that it's important that you have no nagging injuries, that you don't have to sit out training sessions. So I got through preparation well and I'm fit for the start of the season,” he explained.
