Born in Rio de Janeiro on 3 May 2004, Andrey Santos was quickly spotted by Vasco da Gama, a legendary Carioca club. An undisputed starter at just 17 years old, he scored eight goals during his first season with the senior side. He contributed greatly to his team’s promotion to Serie A in 2022, before his transfer to England in the winter of 2023. Having represented all of Brazil’s youth teams, he is the current captain of the U23s, and has even already won his first senior international cap. On 25 March 2023, against Morocco, he started in midfield alongside Casemiro and Lucas Paquetá. He is currently the only player born in 2004 or later to have played for the Seleção, and will become the 11th Brazilian player in Racing’s history.
“Andrey Santos is a midfielder who has good vision of the game. The high quality of his passing allows him to break the lines. His profile is very complementary to the other midfielders in our squad,” explained Loïc Désiré, Racing’s head of recruitment.
