Social networks were buzzing on Tuesday with further speculation of Corinthians reinforcements for the upcoming 2020 campaign.
Prior to finding out their Copa Libertadores second-phase opponents, who will be the winner of Paraguay’s Guaraní and Bolivia’s fourth representative, president Andrés Sanchez responded to rumours that Ángel Romero could come back to the club.
Despite being a fan favourite, Sanchez is still bothered by the way Romero’s time at the club ended and has barred the Paraguay international from returning.
“Look, Romero was very important for Corinthians, helped to win four titles, but as long as I have some voting rights, he doesn’t set foot on Corinthians soil and play.
“I think he did not act correctly, although the law entitles him. We tried to renew with him, but instead he waited to finish his contract and left (for free).
“It’s an athlete’s right, we got upset, but it’s a right.”
Romero has been very effective since joining San Lorenzo over the summer, contributing four goals and an assist in 13 games.
During his five years at Corinthians, Romero scored 38 goals in 222 games.
