Former Manchester United winger Andrei Kanchelskis believes Lokomotiv Moscow starlet Sergey Pinyaev may have missed his chance to join a club like Manchester United.

Pinyaev, 18, has long been considered one of Russia’s most exciting prospects. At the end of 2022, he became the youngest player to ever debut for Russia’s national team.

The left-winger has scored five goals and registered three assists for Lokomotiv Moscow this season, but Andrei Kanchelskis has urged Pinyaev to move clubs and potentially better things in the near future.

However, the message also includes a warning not to aim to big with his next move – because Kanchelskis doesn’t think Pinyaev is ready for a move to the Premier League just yet.

Speaking to RB Sport (H/t United In Focus), Kanchelskis spoke about the youngster having a good future in the game: “Pinyaev is, of course, a talent.

“You can see on the pitch that he thinks a little faster than the rest. I won’t say that this is a definitely a star of the generation.

“But there are inclinations that he has a good future.”

According to the Manchester Evening News, United have continued to follow Pinyaev’s progress after he had trials at the club prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, Kanchelskis doesn’t sound convinced that Pinyaev is ready to make that jump to United right now. He suggests the midfielder should move to another league in Europe before trying to attract the big Premier League clubs.

“The main thing is not to sit around in the RPL. He definitely needs to flee to Europe and try his hand there,” Kanchelskis adds.

“Manchester United interest? I think it’s already in the past. They won’t call from England now, but there are other good leagues.”
