Former Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira is keen on knocking the Red Devils out of the FA Cup.
United welcome Fulham to Old Trafford for their 5th round FA Cup clash on Sunday afternoon.
Despite his side’s win over Ipswich Town, Ruben Amorim finds himself under pressure heading into the tie. With little left to play for in the Premier League, 14th-placed United rely on cup competitions to deliver something come the end of the season.
Pereira, meanwhile, is planning to break United hearts, as he remains determined to prove the club’s hierarchy wrong.
The Brazilian midfielder made his senior breakthrough at United but failed to cement his place in the starting lineup under different managers.
After several underwhelming loan stints, the Mancunians agreed to sell Pereira to Fulham in 2022 in a deal reported to be worth around £10m with a 20 per cent sell-on clause in their favour.
Now 29, he has established himself as one of Fulham’s most important players, impressing with his passing range and versatility.
Ahead of the trip to his boyhood club, the Brazil international spoke to The Analyst and underlined his desire to show his skill sets at the Theatre of Dreams.
“I don’t think I got my full chance to play and show my quality when I was there,” he said.
“Fulham gave me that opportunity, they did everything for me, and I want to do everything for them. So, whenever I play at Old Trafford, I want to show that United made a mistake.”
Pereira is certainly motivated but it is not going to be easy for him to stun his former club.
Despite enduring a disastrous season, United have still managed to do the league double over Marco Silva’s men this season. Their latest win over the Cottagers came in January, courtesy of Lisandro Martinez’s brilliant late strike in London.
