Andreas Christensen’s free transfer to Barcelona is signed and sealed if you believe the overwhelming message in the Spanish media, and Catalan paper Sport goes hard with some exclusives on the deal today, treating it as totally done.

They note that Sten Christensen, the defender’s father, had told his son to stay put at Chelsea in the end. Sten was vital in his son making the move as a teenager, and remains his agent.

According to them, amongst the messy months before Christmas where the Dane decided what to do, his dad recommended he stay put at Chelsea, where he was happy and settled and had finally broken into the first team definitively.

But Andreas clearly had his heart set on La Liga, and wasn’t persuaded by his father or by Chelsea’s offers in the end.

We will never know who made the right call, but it’s a shame for Chelsea that he didn’t listen to his old man.
