Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen is at the risk of missing El Clasico against Real Madrid with injury.

The Dane hobbled off the field during the second half of the Champions League game against Inter Milan, which was later revealed as a sprained ankle.

A statement from Barca read: “Andreas Christensen has a ligament sprain in his left ankle. Further tests will be carried out tomorrow to find out the exact extent of the injury.”

However, a report from AS claims that the injury could be more severe than it looks, and Christensen faces a race against time to be fit for the La Liga clash against Real Madrid next weekend.

Barca are already short of options in defence, with Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde on the sidelines.

Christensen moved to Camp Nou from Chelsea on a free transfer this summer and has made a good impression with the Catalan giants.

He has made six appearances in all competitions this season, and his best performance came against Mallorca in La Liga last week.

Barca fell to a 1-0 defeat against Inter last night, with Hakan Calhanoglu’s first-half strike making the difference.

The Blaugrana’s Champions League form looks a far cry from La Liga as they have now suffered back-to-back defeats against Bayern Munich and Inter.

It remains to be seen whether Christensen will recover quickly, as Barca face Celta Vigo and Inter in the space of a week before the first Clasico of the season.
