Andrea Pirlo has taken to social media to register his delight at being named the new Juventus manager.
It has been a whirlwind period recently for the 41-year-old former Italy international.
On 30 July, he was installed as Juve’s U-23 manager only to find himself elevated to the senior team just nine days later following the Bianconeri’s Champions League exit to Lyon.
In a rather cynical ploy, Juventus have admitted they had already made their mind up to replace Maurizio Sarri with Pirlo regardless of the Serie A champions’ fate in the Champions League.
Not that Pirlo seemed too bothered by the circumstances of his appointment when he posted to Twitter: “I’m deeply pleased and honoured to receive such respect and trust from Juventus.
“Ready for this amazing opportunity!”
Pirlo won four consecutive Scudettos with the Turin giants during his time with the club between 2011 and 2015, and before that was an integral part of the Milan side that won the 2003 and 2007 Champions Leagues.
The Brescia-born midfielder earned over 100 caps for his country, and starred for the Azzurri in their 2006 World Cup success.
