Andre Silva has reflected on his time at AC Milan, admitting that he was living a dream but joined at a difficult moment for the club.

The striker arrived at San Siro in 2017 as one of the most exciting signings of a summer transfer window that saw over €200m spent. He was tipped to lead the line for years to come, even if another striker arrived in Nikola Kalinic and he struggled for starts in the league initially.

The Rossoneri paid €38m to get him from the Portuguese side, but ultimately he struggled to ever really adapt to Italian football and thus repay that investment. He did a lot better in the Europa League, scoring eight goals that season, yet took until March 2018 to score his first Serie A goal.

Silva spoke during an interview with Record in which he opened up on the various experiences in his career, including joining Milan from Porto, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“At that time, well, I was living my dream, right? At a time when the club was not in a comfortable situation. I was the player who could bring the most money to my club and when an offer came from Milan, a historic club…

“There are many things that matter in those moments, it’s not just the market issue, my heart, or my choice, at that time. I think I was 21 at that time, and that’s when I chose to go to Milan. It was a tough challenge and, of course, a source of pride, one of the most important clubs in the world.”
