Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana had a night to remember against FC Porto in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 last night.

Onana made a string of excellent saves to help Inter advance to the quarter-finals by an aggregate 1-0 scoreline.

The Cameroonian shot-stopper returned to the starting XI after sitting out last weekend’s Serie A clash against Spezia, which Inter lost 2-1.

Samir Handanovic, who was between the sticks, was criticised for his lacklustre performance.

Onana showcased his quality at the Estadio do Dragao, putting on a spectacular display to keep a clean sheet and fire into the last eight for the first time since 2011.

The former Ajax keeper made several crucial saves, including a brilliant effort to deny Mehdi Taremi’s header in the dying minutes.

Onana was at his usual best with his distribution, launching 12 accurate long balls. The clean sheet was his fifth in this Champions League campaign.

The goalkeeper has made a significant impact for the Nerazzurri since his arrival on a free transfer from Ajax last summer.

Although he was overlooked at the start by Simone Inzaghi, he has gradually gained the confidence of the Italian manager with some impressive performances.

Credit must be given to Inter’s defenders, who were unruffled throughout the game against an ambitious Porto side.

Federico Dimarco made a huge block to deny Evanilson’s shot in the first half, while Denzel Dumfries produced a massive goal-line clearance in injury time.

Even in the absence of Milan Skriniar, Francesco Acerbi, Matteo Darmian and Alessandro Bastoni held the fort and put in an excellent defensive shift.

The Nerazzurri, who are currently second in the table, will host Juventus in Serie A this week in an exciting Derby d’Italia.
