With his contract set to expire next summer, Thomas Foket (29) will not be retained by Stade de Reims this summer, who would be keen to cash in on the former Belgian international. According to L’Equipe, Foket could return to Belgium as Anderlecht are in talks to sign the former KAA Gent defender.
With Will Still having left to join RC Lens and the recent nomination of Luka Eisner as the club’s new manager, Reims is set to enter a new era. One of the club’s priorities this summer is to revamp their backline, as emblematic captain Yunis Abdelhamid (36) joined AS Saint-Etienne and right back Foket is pushed towards the exit. While former West Bromwich Albion centre back Cedric Kipré (27) is set to replace Abdelhamid, Reims are still on the market for a right back, but would be keen on offloading Foket first. An objective that could be completed soon, as Anderlecht have set their sights on the 29-year-old defender.
After six seasons at the Champagne side, Foket is likely to leave this summer as he only has one year remaining on his current deal. Towards the end of last season, the right-back had to face competition from academy member’s Abdoul Koné (19), whose emergence has been a positive surprise so far and earned him to start the last three games of last season. According to L’Equipe, Anderlecht are eyeing a move for the experienced right-back, and a meeting is to be planned between both clubs. On their side, the Belgian outfit is reportedly ready to offer a three-year contract to Foket.
