Anderlecht have announced that winger Thorgan Hazard has suffered a cruciate ligament injury that could keep him out for at least six months. The ex-Dortmund midfielder suffered the injury during the first half of the Brussels derby and was replaced by Francis Amuzu. In the end, it was his replacement that ended up scoring the winning goal despite the side being down to 10 men.
31-year-old Hazard joined Anderlecht in the summer from Dortmund for around €4m. Last year he spent the second half of the season on loan at Eredivisie side PSV. Hazard signed a deal with Anderlecht until 2026. After a slow start to the season, Hazard has shown a return to better form with four goals and six assists in 24 games.
This is Hazard’s second spell in Belgium, having spent time with Zulte Waregem on loan from Chelsea from 2012/2014. In two seasons for the side he played 88 games, scoring 21 goals and providing 27 assists.
