According to Het Nieuwsblad, Anderlecht are trying to negotiate a new deal with 26-year-old central midfield Majeed Ashimeru. The Ghanaian international has been plagued by injuries during his time with the club and is now entering the final year of his contract. However, despite the setbacks, the club still see the talent that he clearly has. As a result, they are looking to offer him a new deal, that would provide the same pay packet but include performance related bonuses. They are also working on bringing his wife to Belgium from Ghana.

The former RB Salzburg midfielder joined Anderlecht for around €1.5m in 2021 as a replacement for the then Arsenal bound Albert Sambi Lokonga. The versatile central midfielder has shown flashes of his talent when able to put a run of games together, with eight goals and five assists in 106 games. Ghana has also seen the talent in Ashimeru, with the midfielder being consistently included in national team squads, even when he hasn’t made many club performances due to injury.

There is hope amongst the Anderlecht staff that the worst of the injuries are behind him and that he can make a key contribution during the 2024/2025 season.
