Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Anderlecht and Ipswich are interested in signing Chris Mepham. The Brussels side are in desperate need of a central defender and it is not surprising that they are linked to the former Brentford man, who would have been at the side when Anderlecht’s current head coach Brian Riemer was part of the coaching set up. Romano is reporting that a number of other clubs are expected to join the race to sign Mepham, so Anderlecht will certainly have competition. One advantage they do have is being able to offer European football.
The former Brentford defender joined Bournemouth for around €13m back in 2019. The defender has gone on to make 121 appearances for the side in both the Premier League and the Championship, scoring twice in the process. At international level, Mepham has represented Wales at the Euros and World Cup in Qatar.
Transfermarkt currently values the defender at €6m, yet going into the final year of his contract its likely that an interested party will be able to negotiate a cheaper deal with Bournemouth.
