According to Sacha Tavolieri, Anderlecht have begun discussions with Leicester City for the signing of experienced defender Jannik Vestergaard. The 31-year-old Danish central defender, who cost the Foxes around €17.6m from Southampton in the summer of 2021, has one year left on his contract. He has started all five games for the side in the EFL Championship this season, playing all 90 minutes in each. Anderlecht are looking for another defender after Hannes Delcroix left for Burnley during the transfer window. No agreement has been reached on a transfer fee or contractual terms with the club or player.
Vestergaard made a name for himself during his time in the Bundesliga, where he played for three sides. He began at TSG Hoffenheim, making 82 appearances and scoring six goals. Werder Bremen then signed the tall defender, where he played over 50 times. His last spell in Germany was with Borussia Mönchengladbach, where he made over 80 appearances. Southampton brought Vestergaard to England during the 2018/2019 Premier League season.
Anderlecht are active in the final days of the Belgian transfer window, with Kasper Schmeichel set to join for free.
