The Brazil Football Confederation (CBF) president Ednaldo Rodrigues has announced that Fernando Diniz will be taking over the reins of the Selecao on an interim basis for a year before Carlo Ancelotti assumes the role from next year’s Copa America.

The CBF has been persistent in their pursuit of Ancelotti and have been chasing the Real Madrid manager for months together now.

Despite the Italian making it clear that he wishes to see out his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu, Rodrigues refused to give up and opted to wait for the Italian for a year.

Now, Ancelotti is all set to become the manager of the Brazil national team starting in June 2024 reports MARCA, with the 64-year-old taking over right before the Copa America which is scheduled for the next summer.

By that time, Ancelotti will have run down his Real Madrid contract and fulfilled his responsibilities at the club before moving on to a new challenge in his illustrious career as a manager at the highest level.

Talking about the appointment of Diniz and the plan for Ancelotti, the CBF president said:

“He is the coach and he is going to balance Fluminense and the national team during that time. For us, as coach of the Brazilian national team, he is not interim. He has a 12-month contract. He will make the transition to Ancelotti, who will arrive for the Copa America.”

While Rodrigues seems to have unofficially confirmed Ancelotti’s appointment, an official announcement is unlikely to be made until January 2024.

And as far as Real Madrid are concerned, they are already looking at possible replacements, with Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso being one of the candidates.

Ancelotti is currently in his second stint as the manager of Real Madrid. The 64-year-old first managed the team between 2013 and 2015 before returning to the Bernabeu in 2021. But as things stand, it appears that the 2023/24 season will be his final one at the club.
