Ancelotti: "The team's doing very well"

Carlo Ancelotti took to the media room at the Santiago Bernabeu to reflect on Real Madrid's win over Inter Milan: “We're doing well and I really like the look of the team defensively. Our individual ability is very high and Militão and Alaba both put in very good performances. We’re seeing levels of commitment that we didn't see at the start of the season, when we were conceding more goals”.

“The team is doing very well and I don't want to ask any more of them. Sometimes we don't press very high up, but we’re comfortable with a low defensive lock because we don't have midfielders who are able to defend in open spaces. Sometimes it's not very pleasing on the eye, but we're doing really well”.

Round-of-16 draw “The important thing is that we finished top of the group and we now await the last-16 draw. I'm not worried about the draw because our aim is to win the competition and not just to get past the last 16”. "There’s a great atmosphere in the dressing room and we have the quality to win games and compete. There are teams who are more intense than we are but each team has its own attributes. We don’t have that defensive intensity and we struggle to defend when things are wide open but we have bags of quality, experience and commitment”.

Jović and Casemiro "Jović played very well and helped the team not only in attack but also in bringing the ball out. It was a good performance and while Karim is out, he will play. In any case, I expect Benzema to recover. Casemiro just took a bit of a knock and I don’t think he’ll have any problem”.

Praise for Modrić "Of course he has to rest, that’s to be expected. Now he’s got five days to relax and get ready for the next game. I think he rests up well at home and leads a quiet life. He’s a player who has that special something. We have three fantastic central midfielders and then Valverde and Camavinga are putting the pressure on behind them. If there comes a time when one of the three is tired, it’s not a problem because we’ll bring in another lad who will perform at the top level”.

Rodrygo and Asensio "They’re both doing a great job. Sometimes I choose more of a typical wide player like Rodrygo and sometimes, depending on the strategy I might opt for someone who likes to come inside, like Asensio, and he scored a spectacular goal tonight".
