Ancelotti reacts as ‘imbalanced’ Everton continue miserable home form with 2-1 loss to Burnley | OneFootball

Everton’s miserable home form continued on Saturday evening, slipping to a 2-1 loss to an impressive Burnley at Goodison Park.

Burnley took the in the 13th minute, Sean Dyche’s side springing an aggressive press to win the ball back, before laying the ball off to Dwight McNeil on the left. The winger’s cross wasn’t dealt with by the Everton defence, dropping to Chris Wood who set himself before firing his side ahead from the edge of the box.

12 minutes later and McNeil made it 2-0 in superb style. The 21-year-old drifted in from the right, beat Everton midfielder Allan before bending an exquisite effort around Mason Holgate, beyond Jordan Pickford and into the top corner.

Everton would pull one back just after the half-hour mark, Dominic Calvert-Lewin scoring his sixth headed goal of the season, getting on the end of a whipped delivery from the right by Tom Davies.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side dominated after the break, but in truth, never looked like really troubling Nick Pope, the Clarets defence performing stoically, restricting the Toffees to just one shot on target in the second period.

The Lancashire club actually spurned a few opportunities to extend their lead, and speaking afterwards, Blues boss Ancelotti was unsurprisingly disappointed in his side’s performance which leaves them with a record of just five league wins at Goodison Park this season.

“Big disappointment. We lost a great opportunity to climb the table,” he told Sky Sports. “We made the same mistakes we have in games this season at home. We started poorly and were 2-0 down. We tried to get back into the game but it was not enough.

“It was a mistake. We tried to build up and were imbalanced. They were better and strong defensively. They won second balls. This is the reason for the defeat.

“We should have created more. We missed passes and crosses. We missed control and quality.

“When we try to play with quality we have difficulties. We are strong when we defend properly. It is clear at home we were not good enough. We are fantastic away. This season is like this. Next game is at home and we have to do better.”

Next up for Ancelotti’s side is a FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City.
