Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti spoke to the media on Monday evening ahead of his side’s Champions League meeting with Shakhtar Donetsk.

This is what he had to say.

On post-break fitness

“All the players who played with their national teams have come back in a good shape and ready to play. Only Eden Hazard has a little problem.

“But Ferland Mendy has recovered and it is so important that he’s back because we’ve had problems on the left flank. Toni Kroos feels a lot better. Everyone is feeling good and motivated.”

On Eden Hazard concern

“The person who is most tired of this whole situation is Hazard himself.

“He’s been very unlucky with injuries and what he wants most is to play. We’ll see when he can play again – maybe against Barcelona, or Osasuna.”

On his changing style

“If we still haven’t shown our real identity it’s because we’ve had problems. We tried to defend at first in some games but it didn’t work out.

“The idea I have now is clear: this team must play 4-3-3. There is no other way. There may be games when we can make changes but this system is what this squad is used to and what they do best.”
