Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has addressed the media ahead of his side’s Champions League clash with Sheriff on Tuesday.
This is what he had to say.
“[Ferland] Mendy is doing well and I think he’ll be back after the international break.
“We’ve had a lot of issues at full-back with injuries on both sides but the positive is that the position changes depending on what we are seeking tactically.
“For example, when we have a winger like Rodrygo on the park then I don’t need a full-back to push a lot and he can just stay in position.”
“I’m very happy with him. When I take a player off it isn’t because he’s not doing well. Luka played very well as a No. 10 against Villarreal.
“But I have to remember he’s 36 and I don’t want him to have problems. I took him off only because we needed fresh legs, not because he isn’t playing well. He had an injury last month and I don’t want that to happen again.”
“It is a little complicated but Eder Militão and David Alaba are doing very well and kept a clean sheet in the last game.
“We’re improving and it is about collective commitment, not just in defence. Militão and Alaba have to get used to playing together but they’ve started well.”
