Pep Guardiola’s side will be aiming to become the first team in English football history to win back-to-back Premier League/FA Cup doubles. Manchester City created history last weekend with their victory over West Ham. That victory saw them claim their fourth consecutive Premier League title. They became the first side in English football to claim four successive league titles. That in itself is a remarkable achievement. Now, the chance to create even more history beckons if they can beat their arch rivals at Wembley tomorrow.

There is also the opportunity for Manchester City to make it four trophies for the season with a victory tomorrow. On top of the Premier League title, they have also won the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup this season. If they were to beat Manchester United and secure the double on top of their earlier success this season, it would cap off a remarkable 23/24 season for Manchester City. Tomorrow’s derby against Manchester United will no doubt be a tough and tight affair, but history beckons if Pep Guardiola’s side can claim victory.

Speaking during his pre-game press conference, Pep Guardiola mentioned that he hadn’t mentioned what was on offer to his players before tomorrows game. However, Guardiola did believe the chance to create history could be extra motivation for his players. He told the media: “Good, if the history give us the chance to be in front of something not done before, why not try it. Maybe it’s an extra motivation for the players. I didn’t speak about this subject specifically to them. If we played just for the win the trophy it’s enough. I said before a month ago that not any team has done four in a row because it’s difficult. A team has not done back to back Premier Leagues and FA Cups because it’s not easy. We are here and we will go to London to perform well.”

Another chance to create history is on offer for Manchester City tomorrow at Wembley. It will be no easy task as they face Erik ten Hag’s side who will be eager to end their disappointing season on a high note. But if Pep Guardiola’s side can emerge victorious against their arch rivals, they will further etch their name into the history books as the first team to claim back-to-back Premier League/FA Cup doubles.
