The Women's FA Cup semi-finals take place this weekend with four teams looking to book their spot at Wembley including the current holders.

WSL holders, and likely league winners again, Chelsea will take on an improved Liverpool in Saturday's game while Sunday sees a Manchester derby with holders United hoping to make the final once again.

We've taken a closer look at the numbers to see who will end up on top...

Chelsea v Liverpool Saturday 12th April (12:15 KO) Kingsmeadow

Chelsea's FA Cup record: 5x winners, 2x runners-up

Sonia Bompastor's side will understandably be the heavy favourites for this game, and indeed the entire competition, as they currently lead the league by a comfortable margin.

Chelsea have just lost once this season, 2-0 away to Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League – a deficit that they made up for in the second leg with a 3-0 victory. Domestically, they're still unbeaten.

It's going to take an all-round incredibly defensive effort by Liverpool to stop the Blues. Chelsea top the charts in the WSL for goals alongside Arsenal (49) while having the second-best defensive record having conceded just (13, again the same as Arsenal).

Goals come from all over the pitch as well, of Chelsea outfield players to feature in 10+ WSL games only Millie Bright has not yet netted in the league with the Blues having 14 different goal scorers in the league in total.

35 of Chelsea's goals in the league this season have come from out of play (first) with seven from set-pieces excluding penalties (second, behind Arsenal again).

These two sides have faced each other three times in the FA Cup, with Chelsea winning all of them.

Liverpool's FA Cup record: 3x runners-up [inc. once as Knowsley United]

Matt Beard's mid-season sacking was controversial and since then the Reds have won three and lost two in all competitions. Those three wins did include a big victory over rivals Manchester United at Anfield and a surprise 1-0 win in the quarter-final over Arsenal.

The Gunners got swift revenge with a 4-0 win in the league before the break before Aston Villa also ran out 2-1 winners after a late Jenna Clark own goal.

Goals have been at a premium for Liverpool, having scored only 18 in the league this season – with only Crystal Palace (15) and Leicester City (14) – however five of those goals have come in their last four games.

It's hard to think about how the Reds will be able to exploit Chelsea. Liverpool are a physical team having won 55.5% of their aerial duels (the joint top alongside Everton) but their opponents tomorrow aren't far behind, ranking fourth with 53.6%.

However, while Chelsea have won every FA Cup game against Liverpool, you only need to go back to May last year for when the Reds did emerge victorious – a 4-3 win thanks to a late Gemma Bonner goal that almost cost the Blues the title.

Manchester City v Manchester United Sunday 13th April (15:00 KO) Joie Stadium

Manchester City's FA Cup record: 3x winners, 1x runners-up

Gareth Taylor was another one of the managerial casualties this season with Nick Cushing brought in to help push for a place in Europe and potentially secure silverware in the FA Cup.

It's been a difficult start for Cushing, with four of his five games so far having been against Chelsea (three defeats, one win) while the Citizens earned a win in the last league game away to Brighton to keep their European push on course.

It's still difficult to tell what exactly Cushing's City will look like in the manager's second stint (however brief it may be). But the blue side of Manchester remain top of the possession table in the WSL averaging 61.5% (way ahead of Arsenal, 58.3% and Chelsea, 56.4%) while maintaining the highest passing accuracy (87.9%).

City also have enjoyed games against United in recent seasons having won four of the last five contests in all competitions. Indeed, the two met already in cup competition this year – a 2-1 victory for City in the League Cup quarter-final with Lily Murphy scoring the decisive goal.

Manchester United's FA Cup record: 1x winners, 1x runners-up

The current holders of the cup have shown their faith in the sometimes devised Marc Skinner by signing him on for a further two seasons.

That faith in Skinner could potentially pay off should United manage to earn European football but they do have the far more difficult run-in that could potentially see City catch up.

A win here would potentially be a psychological blow to their neighbours and while City have had the better of the results between the two in recent meetings, United did earn a big 4-2 win at the Etihad Stadium in the WSL back in January – a game in which Ella Toone bagged a hat-trick.

Like in that game, United will be looking to make the most of their high press to force City into mistakes, which explains why the Red Devils are ranked third for tackles won (274) in a league behind more 'defensive' teams like West Ham and Leicester. That aggression also explains why United have committed the most fouls (188), and the received the joint-most yellow cards (31) but still have maintained enough discipline to avoid a sending off.
