FLW's Blackburn Rovers fan pundit has given his verdict on the club's January business so far
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
Blackburn Rovers are competing for a play-off place in the Championship this season.
John Eustace is hoping to steer the team towards a top six finish for the first time in the second division since their relegation from the Premier League in 2012.
However, the January transfer window has not proven a busy period for the club, with only two signings arriving to bolster their play-off hopes.
Dion Sanderson has joined on loan from Birmingham City, reuniting with the manager, with Adam Forshaw also signing on a short-term deal.
When asked to sum up the club’s January business so far, one of FLW’s Blackburn fan pundits Simon Middlehurst criticised it and labelled it disappointing.
He believes it is the same story as every other winter market, with the club failing to do enough to back the manager.
“As usual, when it comes to January, there’s never ever anything pleasing about this window when it comes to Blackburn,” Middlehurst told Football League World.
“It’s been really disappointing so far.
“We’ve got Adam Forshaw and Dion Sanderson on short-term deals until the end of the season.
“Great additions, I suppose, defensively and in midfield, but we’ve got an injury crisis at Blackburn at the minute, 11 first team players out, we’re relying heavily on the youth academy to sit on the bench, we need players in.
“If we’re going to progress, we need players in.
“It’s just not happening, every January it’s the same at Blackburn.
“The managers are clearly are getting promised that they’re being backed, but when it comes to this time of year it’s an absolute failure.
“It’s disappointing.
“We’ve had issues in the past where little things like they’ve not even hit send or save or whatever on the transfer button.
“It’s just disappointing every year, every January, it’s the busiest time of year with the amount of games that are being played and we just don’t have the squad.
“We need players in, it happens every year and it just never happens, it’s been dreadful again.”
Rovers are currently seventh in the Championship table, two points outside the play-off places.
Rovers find themselves right in the mix for a play-off place this season, so should be making the most of this period to improve the team.
Eustace is doing great work at Ewood Park and has earned the chance to be backed in the transfer market.
However, there hasn’t been much activity surrounding the team in the last couple of weeks, and it could very easily be a quiet end to the window.
