A UEFA Pro Licence holder, Merricks was England WU19 Head Coach last year and spent eight years at Brighton, where she was Interim Manager on three occasions and worked under Hope Powell for five years.

Birmingham City’s Women’s Technical Director, Powell, told bcfc.com: “Amy Merricks is a highly talented and progressive, young coach. Her leadership qualities and attention to detail shone through during her time at Brighton. Having also worked on the international stage with England Under-19s, her coaching credentials are exceptional.

“Amy will be given the necessary support and time to deliver on our shared ambitions. I look forward to welcoming her to the club and ending the season positively.”

Merricks commented: “It’s an honour to join Birmingham City at a critical point in their journey and I’m excited to get straight to work with such a talented group of players.

“After hearing the ambitions of Garry Cook, Hope Powell and the Board, as well as knowing the steep history Birmingham already has in the women’s game, I was immediately attracted to the opportunity of driving this club forward and further than it has been before.”
