Manchester United are searching for a new defensive midfielder this summer.
Manuel Ugarte has been identified as the priority target, but a deal could be difficult to pull off with Paris Saint-Germain reluctant to lower their demands.
Monaco ace Youssouf Fofana is one of the fallback options for United, but Fabrizio Romano has reported that he is determined to join AC Milan.
Corriere dello Sport (page 13) now claim that Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has turned down a move to Fenerbahce, who are managed by Jose Mourinho.
The 27-year-old only has United in his mind and won’t accept any other offers.
If the Red Devils decide against a fresh transfer approach, there is a possibility that the Moroccan ace will sign a new contract and continue with La Viola next season.
Amrabat joined the club from Fiorentina on deadline day last summer with plenty of hype.
He was tremendous for Morocco during the 2022 World Cup where he was described as ‘world-class‘ by manager Walid Regragui.
However, he struggled to adapt to the intensity of the Premier League and fell out of favour in the second half of last season.
Amrabat started to find his feet in the final month of the campaign, but United decided against triggering the option to purchase him.
The club have probably moved on from him and may not renegotiate a fresh transfer deal.
The biggest hint over the same is on the club’s official website. Amrabat’s name has been removed from the first-team squad list.
