Manchester United have reached an agreement for Ruben Amorim to become the club’s next head coach.

Amorim is set to replace Erik ten Hag as manager after the Red Devils negotiated a compensation package with Sporting Lisbon.

As part of the agreement, Amorim will move to England after November’s international break. The 39-year-old will take charge of Sporting’s next three games, which includes a Champions League clash against Manchester City, before taking over at Old Trafford.

The Athletic are reporting that Amorim’s first game in charge will come against Ipswich Town at Portman Road on November 24th.

United are unwilling to pay an additional fee to release Amorim from his contract earlier, having agreed to pay his €10m release clause. However, the clause contains a 30-day notice period so that Sporting can find a replacement.

Conversations are ongoing to bring in Amorim’s coaching staff from the Portuguese champions. Discussions between the clubs continue over compensation for first-team coaches Emanuel Ferro, Adelio Candido and Carlos Fernandes, goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital and sports scientist Paulo Barreira.

Ruud van Nistelrooy will remain in interim charge until Amorim’s arrival, having led the side to a 5-2 win over Leicester in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

The Dutchman is set to oversee further games with Chelsea in the Premier League, PAOK in the Europa League, and Leicester in the Premier League.
