Ruben Amorim has offered an encouraging update on Amad Diallo and believes the Manchester United winger could be back before the end of the campaign.
Diallo is currently sidelined with an ankle ligament injury and the initial prognosis suggested the Ivorian would not play again this season. However, in an update on his squad ahead of this weekend’s clash with Arsenal, Amorim offered an optimistic update.
The Manchester United manager said he is hopeful that Diallo, Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw and Mason Mount could all play a part in the run-in.
However, he said the Red Devils must be ‘careful’ with Harry Maguire, who was forced off during Sunday’s FA Cup defeat to Fulham at Old Trafford.
“We need to survive Sunday [against Arsenal], the team was so tired in the last 20 minutes [against Real Sociedad]. Everybody can start if they’re training [today],” Amorim said at his pre-match press conference.
On the timeframe for potential returns, he added: “I don’t want to say anything, but I hope to have Amad back before the end of the season.
“Lisandro (Martinez) is out. Kobbie Mainoo can return before the end of the season”.
“(Harry) Maguire, we have to be careful. (Manuel) Ugarte will return. Luke Shaw and Mason Mount can return also.”
Amorim was also asked for his view on the planned fan protest ahead of Sunday’s game with Arsenal. He understands the fan frustration in a ‘tough moment’ for the club.
“I think for everyone in our club it is a tough moment.
“It is everything at the same time, but the only thing I can do and our players can do is perform well and win.
“People have the right to protest, it is a good thing to do that. It is part of our club, and everybody has a voice, but my job is to improve the team and give them something in this moment because they deserve it and they’re amazing.”
