Manchester United suffered their ninth defeat of the Premier League campaign against Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Monday night.

The Red Devils were dominated by the Magpies from the off. Alexander Isak opened the scoring for the visitors after just four minutes.

The Tyneside outfit doubled their advantage in the 19th minute through Joelinton’s header.

United had a couple of big chances to get back into the game, but they ended up without mustering a single shot on target over 90 minutes.

Joshua Zirkzee made the headlines after he was substituted in the 33rd minute. Manager Ruben Amorim wanted an extra midfield presence in Kobbie Mainoo.

The Dutchman was one of the worst players on the pitch. Casemiro was equally disappointing with his lack of control in the centre of the park.

The 32-year-old got a surprise start with Manuel Ugarte suspended. It was a forgettable evening as Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton outclassed him.

Casemiro was decent with his tackling and ability to win duels, but he lost possession on 15 occasions in 64 minutes and struggled to cope with the high intensity.

The Brazil international had a 79 percent passing accuracy and played one successful long ball (1/4).

Mainoo put the ball on a plate for Casemiro to score before the half-time break, but he completely fluffed his lines with his shot being way off target.

He ended up with a 2/10 rating from the Manchester Evening News. United can’t rely on him in the starting XI anymore and must find a better back-up for Ugarte next year.

Amorim must drop him to the bench for Sunday’s league clash against Liverpool at Anfield. He should pair Ugarte alongside Mainoo in the heart of United’s midfield.
