Ruben Amorim has said he already feels ‘at home’ as he prepares to begin his tenure at Manchester United.
Amorim will lead the side for the first time at Ipswich Town on Sunday, following his appointment as the club’s new manager.
The 39-year-old faces a huge challenge to revive the fortunes of the Red Devils, who sit 13th in the Premier League table after 11 games. It has been the club’s worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Amorim was asked whether the size of the club had lived up to his expectations.
“It’s bigger. There’s a lot of departments, you feel here’s a global club. There’s so much to do, not just coaching the team. I’ve had a lot of help, I feel at home.”
United have endured over a decade of decline since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, with their last Premier League title arriving in Ferguson’s final campaign in 2012/13. Amorim was asked whether he felt the club needed ‘repairing’.
“I don’t know about repair. We have space to grow as a team. We have to improve in a lot of areas. I know it’s a different way of playing and we are changing the way we play.
“We have to change the physical aspect of the team. I don’t know how long it will take. I know at Manchester United we have to win games. We need a lot of time because it’s a tough league, we have to improve a lot to try to win the title.
“It’s not revolution. The football is not so different with five at the back, four at the back, three at the back. It’s not evolution or revolution, it’s a change in the way we play football.”
