Ruben Amorim has admitted Manchester United’s 2-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace is a ‘really bad’ result for the club.
Manchester United lost on home soil for the seventh time in 13 league games this season as Palace recorded a 2-0 win at Old Trafford. Jean-Philippe Mateta got both goals for the visitors to increase the pressure on Amorim.
United had been searching for a fourth straight win in all competitions but this was a setback to deflate a brief period of optimism.
It’s the first time in 130 years that United have lost seven of their opening 13 home games of a league season. The result leaves the Red Devils 13th in the Premier League table.
“The result is really bad. The performance was a little bit better than the last games,” Amorim said to Sky Sports.
We controlled the transitions quite well for Crystal Palace. We suffered two goals that we can avoid and the injury on Lisandro Martinez was tough for the team.”
Martinez was substituted with a knee injury and Amorim said the club anticipate the Argentine will be ruled out for an extended period.
“We are going to see in the next days but I think it is a serious situation. He is not only a great player but a strong character in the dressing room. He felt it and when you are a player, you know when it is something serious. We are here to help him in this difficult moment like he has helped us.”
