Amine Gouiri was a key man in a positive performance from Stade Rennais who earned a deserved draw against Paris Saint-Germain (1-1) at the Parc des Princes on Sunday afternoon, with a spectacular outside foot goal to give the Breton side the lead.

Stade Rennais managed to bounce back from their elimination from the Europa League with a well-deserved draw against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes (1-1). It saw Les Rouge et Noir complete a run of five victories out of seven matches in February, with their only loss coming to AC Milan at the San Siro in the Europa League (3-0).

Out of the performances which stood out for Rennes, was of course the showing of Algerian international Amine Gouiri. The former OGC Nice player was finding it hard to impose himself under Julian Stéphan, with a knee injury ruling him out of action for January's AFCON campaign for his national team compounding his run of bad luck further.

Two months later, however, Gouiri is right back into form in an important part of the season for Rennes and their race to qualify for Europe. The attacker now has eight goals and one assist so far this season, shining brighter in a two-man attack with either Kalimuendo or Martin Terrier rather than playing out wide.

'Athleticism, explosiveness, lucidity and technique' Julian Stephan full of praise

"He scored a very talented goal, which combines a lot of things: athleticism, explosiveness, lucidity and technique," said manager Julien Stéphan following the game. "He's now also free of certain physical constraints with his ankle and calf, which had slowed down his return to action. He's coming back very strong now, in a squad that's performing well. It also frees up talented players to express themselves in the final third of the pitch."
