América striker Henry Martín has been left out of the Mexico squad for the upcoming friendly against Paraguay at the club’s request.
Martín sustained a hamstring injury in Friday’s win over Mazatlan after scoring the second goal in a 3-1 win for Las Águilas.
Explaining the 29-year-old’s omission from the El Tri squad, a statement from the Mexican Football Federation said: “Henry Martin suffered muscle discomfort in Friday’s game at Club América and after the studies carried out it was determined that he has an injury to the left posterior thigh, so also, in agreement with his club, his withdrawal from the call was determined.”
Ángel Zaldívar of Chivas has been called up to take his América counterpart’s place in the squad. Mexico will take on Paraguay in Atlanta on Wednesday.
Martín faces a race against time to be fit for next Saturday when table-topping Las Águilas take on fourth-placed Tigres.
