Pachuca and América is a relatively common Liguilla match-up, however, the bad news for the Eagles is that they have only advanced on one occasion.

This will be the sixth time the two sides have met in the Liguilla.

The list of clashes between Pachuca and América in Liguillas started in the Verano 2001 tournament, with those from ‘La Bella Airosa’ advancing to the final after upsetting the top seed 3-1 on aggregate. Pachuca would lose to Santos in the final.

Pachuca and América would battle once again in the 2007 Clausura final, with the Tuzos winning 3-2 on aggregate, having won 2-1 in the Estadio Azteca in the first leg.

The only time the Eagles would come out victorious was in the 2012 Clausura quarter-finals, advancing 3-2 on aggregate before losing to Monterrey in the semis.

Pachuca would exact their revenge in the 2015 Clausura quarters, winning 7-5 on aggregate (3-2, 4-3), though they would lose in the semis.

Of course, they most recently went toe-to-toe in the 2021 Guard1anes quarter-finals, with Pachuca advancing 5-5 via away goals before losing to eventual champions Cruz Azul in the semis.
