Club América confirmed on Saturday that midfielder Pedro Aquino is set to undergo surgery after sustaining a fracture in his foot.
Aquino picked up the injury in training whilst on international duty with PĂ©ru and, according to ESPN, could be out for two months.
The 26-year-old midfielder had controversially played for PĂ©ru whilst injured in November 2021 and it was initially believed that Aquino had returned to the Azulcremas out of an abundance of caution this time around.
However, an x-ray has revealed a fracture to his fifth metatarsal requiring surgery. A big blow for the Las Ăguilas as the midfielder will miss a large portion of the Clausura 2022.
América return to action next Saturday when they host Atlético de San Luis.
