Uruguayan striker Federico Viñas has convinced Miguel Herrera and the Club América board that he deserves to be a permanent member of the squad.
Despite being a relative unknown from Uruguayan side Juventud, the 21-year-old took advantage of every opportunity handed to him this season and came up with four goals in just seven appearances (304 total minutes).
Memorably, Viñas scored less than a minute into his América debut in the Clásico Capitalino and came up with incredibly clutch goals in the second-leg of both the Liguilla quarters and semis to help América advance to the finals.
Now, Herrera has admitted that América will likely take up their option-to-buy.
“It’s in the budget,” Herrera told reporters. “Before anything happened, there was the idea of making the purchase option valid. I was already talking with Santiago Baños.”
Due to Monterrey’s participation in the Club World Cup in Qatar, the two sides will not face off in the first leg until 26 December, with the return leg taking place three days later.
