One of the footballers who excited América fans in an important way but never finished reaching his potential was Paraguayan attacker Cecilio Domínguez.

Although the player often gave glimpses of his talent, he never managed to be regular and define himself as a star of Miguel Herrera’s squad.

At the end of the day, he was sold to Argentina’s Independiente, who ended up in a bad financial situation and was not able to fully pay the $6m fee they owed América.

To make matters even worse, they have since sold the player to Major League Soccer’s Austin FC (who will begin play in 2021) for $2.5m.

However, América still had a 25% sell-on clause on the player, meaning Independiente owe América another $625,000. Independiente have yet to pony up and have once again are subject of a lawsuit with FIFA filed by the Mexican giants.
