América recorded their first win under interim manager Fernando Ortiz with a morale-boosting performance against Toluca on Sunday.
Scorers: MartĂnez 7âČ, ValdĂ©s 15âČ, Zendejas 17âČ
The Azulcrema raced into an unassailable lead at the Estadio Azteca, with Roger MartĂnez opening the scoring in just the seventh minute.
A well-worked short corner resulted in Richard SĂĄnchez sending in a low cross that MartĂnez guided home from close range.
Diego ValdĂ©s then doubled the advantage on the quarter-hour mark when he whipped a free-kick into the top corner to register his second goal for Las Ăguilas since joining from Santos Laguna.
And it was a first goal for the club for Alejandro Zendejas as he rose unopposed to head home with the Diablos Rojos defence all at sea.
Henry MartĂn should have added a fourth after the break when he rounded goalkeeper MoisĂ©s Muñoz, only for Toluca defender Valber Huerta to get back and clear off the line.
The victory â only AmĂ©ricaâs second of the Clausura season â moves them up to 15th in the table, and reignites the Coapaâs hopes of securing a place in the play-offs.
