After another Liguilla collapse, Club América will seriously consider offloading some players who did not perform admirably in order to bring in some new reinforcements.
Santiago Baños is said to be keen on taking this opportunity to exchange footballers in order to push harder for the 2022 Clausura title.
They started on Wednesday by terminating the contract of Nico Castillo after a failed loan spell at Brazilian outfit Juventude following a lengthy journey back from a life-threatening thrombosis.
Castillo only made 27 appearances but was lethal, scoring nine goals and adding three assists during his time with the Eagles. He has left the club via mutual consent.
“Nico: we want to thank you for your dedication and professionalism during this stage of your career. We wish you the best of success in your next sporting projects.
“Your strength in the face of adversity will be an inspiration for current and future generations of athletes.”
Another one of the players who failed to stand out last season was striker Federico Viñas, who only managed to score once in over 500 minutes after missing the first five games of the season.
Santiago Solari only gave the Uruguayan six chances to start last season, including a forgettable 60-minute performance against Pumas in the Liguilla first-leg.
The squad that have shown the most interest in Eagles attackers are Necaxa, who are reportedly close to signing Nico Castillo in the upcoming window.
Nicolás Benedetti, who only featured for 244 minutes this past season, has also been linked to a switch with Los Rayos.
