However, manager Santiago Solari will be keen to get his top striker back on the field after missing a number of games due to a muscle injury picked up on international duty with Mexico.

The 28-year-old was an unused substitute in last weekend’s 3-1 defeat at Toluca, but TUDN reports that he took a full part in training on Friday.

América will host MLS side Portland Timbers on Wednesday in the second leg of their Concacaf Champions League tie.

Less good news for Las Águilas is the continued absence of Sebastián Córdova, who is still recovering from the injuries he sustained against Olimpia of Honduras in the previous round of the Champions League.

The attacker will continue to rehabilitate in the hope of being ready for the start of the domestic play-offs.
