A feisty first half at the Estadio Corona saw América come back from behind twice as both teams scored eerily similar goals.

Santos Laguna opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Eduardo Aguirre whipped a dangerous low ball across the face of the six-yard area causing havoc in Las Águilas’ defence.

Guillermo Ocha and Jordan Silva both missed the cross and, turning his back to play, Bruno Valdez almost comically knocked the ball into the back of his net.

Santos weren’t ahead for long though, as América struck back three minutes later with former Santos midfielder Diego Valdés Contreras rising highest to head home from a Mauro Lainez cross.

Santos went ahead again in the 41st minute when Brazilian centre back Dória headed home from a corner but América were right back in it, Salvador Reyes poking home at the back post following a defensive mix-up from the hosts.

Ths visitors took the lead early in the second half when América were awarded a penalty. Valdez, making up for his own goal at the other end, made no mistake as he chose power over placement to make it 3-2.
