Scorers: Valdez 5âČ; SepĂșlveda 90+5âČ
With manager Santiago Solariâs job hanging by a thread AmĂ©rica came flying out of the gate in their search for just a second victory of the season.
The hostâs wasted no time, threatening early on and even taking the lead within five minutes.
Diego ValdĂ©sâ out-swinging corner from the right-hand side was attacked by the onrushing Bruno Valdez. Unmarked and left to run, the defender planted a firm header into the ground and beyond the helpless Washington Aguerre in goal.
Los Azul-Cremas dominated the first half as the visitors were limited to chances on the break. Their best opportunity, an overhead kick expertly executed by Ăngel SepĂșlveda but Guillermo Ochoa was up to the task, grasping the ball low to his right.
A moment of madness followed before halftime, as Alejandro Zendejas was sent off for two yellow card offences in quick succession.
Losing a man changed the complexion of the encounter for only 15-minutes after the break before Querétaro were down to 10-men as well. Juan Romagnoli was sent off for a dangerous challenge after VAR review.
A disjointed half an hour followed as both teams tried to fashion opportunities but it was Querétaro who would have the last chance with a penalty awarded in the third minute of added time.
SepĂșlveda stepped up and made no mistake, sending Ochoa the wrong way to draw the visitorâs level.
The emotion within the Azteca was tense at the final with boos echoing around the stadium as América remain in 17th place despite picking up a point.
