Neither América Mineiro or Corinthians managed to score in Matchday 27 of the Brasileiro Série A.

The first half held more promise and after the intermission the match dribbled to the scoreless finish.

Rather than taking the initiatives as the home team, América found themselves defending pressure from Corinthians several times in the opening quarter-hour.

The visitors created the first clear chance when Pedrinho controlled the ball inside the area and turned to shoot but his shot rolled wide of the far post in the 8th minute after deflecting off centre back Messias.

Overlapping on the right wing, full-back Carlos Augusto sent a low cross into the box that Mateus Vital hit first-time. Goalkeeper João Ricardo prevented the breakthrough with a quality left-handed save in the 13th minute.

In the 22nd minute, América’s Ruy played Gérson Magrão through on a diagonal pass over the defence. The veteran winger attempted to chip the keeper from a tight angle but Cássio Ramos came off his line to force an early shot.

In the second half, the pace of the match fell off. Neither team created much in the final third.

After the intermission, América Mineiro manager Adílson Batista appeared to be playing for a draw at home. Batista removed forward Wesley Pacheco for midfielder Matheusinho and swapped in Juninho for David, settling into a packed midfield with few outlets.

The Timão, on the other hand, made positive changes in search of a winner on the road. Corinthians manager Jair Ventura introduced forwards Roger and Sergio Díaz, as well as attacking midfielder Thiaguinho in the second half.

The best chance of the second half came from the head of Matheus Ferraz in the 34th minute. Gérson Magrão was fouled by Corinthians and hit a free kick into the area but Ferraz hit his header right into the arms of goalkeeper Cássio.

After the match, Corinthians sat in eighth place with 35 points and América had 32 points in 12th place though both teams could fall in the standings depending on later results.
