América and Cruz Azul served up a damp squib of a Clásico Joven as the sides closed out their regular seasons in the 2022 Clausura.

There were five yellow cards but no goals as the sides reached half time at the Estadio Azteca without seriously extending either goalkeeper.

That changed as the game progressed, with Cruz Azul’s Sebastián Jurado and his counterpart in the América net Guillermo Ochoa both producing some excellent saves to maintain the stalemate.

Bruno Valdés almost stole all three points for América in stoppage time, but his header bounced off the upright and away to safety.

The result leaves Cruz Azul in eighth spot, as they must go through the Repachaje in order to reach the quarter-finals.

Their city rivals, however, will receive a bye into the last eight. Quite the achievement given the tumultuous season Las Águilas have endured.
