Nicolás Benedetti has reportedly won his battle to stay at América after refusing to join Mazatlán on loan.
According to RÉCORD, directors at the two clubs had reached agreement on a year-long loan move for the Colombia international.
However Benedetti’s desire to remain with Las Águilas and an inability to reach agreement on personal terms means that the player is set to remain on the books.
América were keen to offload the attacking midfielder, who has endured an injury-plagued stay at the Estadio Azteca since joining from Deportivo Cali in 2019.
Aside from his struggle to stay fit, the 24-year-old is also taking up a foreign player spot on the Azulcrema’s roster.
While América might be annoyed that Benedetti has dug his heels in, the report claims that the player has a good working relationship with manager Santiago Solari and may even see action in Sunday’s friendly with América in Dallas.
Benedetti has made the bench for four of the seven Apertura games so far this season, but has yet to play a single minute in the league campaign.
