In September of last year, it was reported that the Argentine outfit Independiente still needed to pay Mexican giants Club América a debt of roughly $5m over player payments for Cecilio Domínguez and Silvio Romero.
Last month, it was claimed that the debt grew to $5.5m but now, after several years, penalties, and Fifa intervention, it appears that business between the two sides will finally come to an end.
At the beginning of February, MLS outfit made a club-record signing, bringing in 19-year-old Alan Velasco from Independiente for a reported $5.6m, with the figure increasing to $7.3m with performance-related bonuses.
With the sale, journalist Matías Martínez reports that the money will be used to pay off the debt with América.
“Alan Velasco has already passed his medical. In the next few days, the payment from FC Dallas will arrive. (Independiente secretary) Yoyo Maldonado declared that this money will be to cancel the debt with América.”
Domínguez was sold to MLS outfit Austin FC in summer 2020 while Romero has joined Brazilian Serie A outfit Fortaleza on loan for the 2022 calendar year.
