After reaching the semi-finals and finishing in the top-four on Liga MX after a ridiculously bad start to the season, Santiago Baños and company are ready to steady the ship and take América to the 2022 Apertura final.
However, they must undergo at least a slight rebuild this summer in order to help Fernando Ortiz achieve the ultimate goal.
According to various Mexican media outlets, Puebla’s Maximiliano Araújo is in their sights and the Eagles will make a heavy push in order to sign the 22-year-old this summer.
They aren’t the only ones in Mexico City interested in the Uruguayan as Cruz Azul are also battling for Araújo’s signature.
Araújo arrived at Puebla from Montevideo Wanderers back in January 2020 in a deal estimated to be worth around $2.2m and has since become one of the club’s best players.
It’s estimated that it will take at least $3m to sign the player, though the fee could be much higher.
