Myles Lewis-Skelly will continue to ‘bring joy’ to those who watch him after an eye-catching debut in the Champions League as Arsenal saw off Monaco 3-0 at Emirates Stadium.

The teenager’s performance has earned rave reviews and, at the age of 18, he becomes the club’s youngest player to start in the competition since Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in 2011.

Showing composure inside the opposition’s half, he threaded a pinpoint pass through to Gabriel Jesus who flashed a cross into Bukayo Saka to tap in at the far post.

Rather than celebrate with the goalscorer or provider, the Arsenal players quickly paid tribute to Lewis-Skelly’s contribution.

Mikel Merino reinforced the 18-year-old’s performance: “Myles did an amazing job. You could see the composure, you can see the quality he has.

“When you have so much quality in every single player, when you are training every single day with us, you get better. I’m really happy for him and for every player who is just in the squad and doing their best.”

Merino is not wrong on composure, as the teenager completed 45 of his 47 passes in the game.

His first appearance in the Champions League followed soon after his first-team debut earlier this campaign when he came on as a substitute in a 2-2 draw against Manchester City in the Premier League.

The future is bright for the academy graduate.

“He’s an amazing guy,” Merino added. “He’s a really good kid, always humble, just trying to learn from the others, asking questions, not being worried about being judged for asking maybe a stupid question or whatever.

“He’s always just trying to learn with a positive attitude and has that technical and physical level that will bring a lot of joy to people who watch him play.”
